Description
This online activity discusses gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia and their progression to early gastric adenocarcinoma; neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia transitioning into neuroendocrine tumors, including the use of ancillary IHC; dysplasia in sporadic and syndromic gastric polyps; and pain points and pitfalls.
This activity was originally presented at CAP20 as part of the activity Gastrointestinal, Liver, and Pancreaticobiliary Neoplasms: Precursors and Progeny Charting the Course.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- Evaluate neoplasia precursor scenarios in the stomach such as gastritis and sporadic polyps.
- Discuss neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia and dysplasia and their transition into neuroendocrine tumors.
- Compare how carcinogenesis progresses from gastritis versus from sporadic polyps.
