Molar Disease and Mole Mimics - GYNMOLDIS12W.2023
Untitled Document

This anatomic pathology activity is intended for pathologists with three to ten years in practice that cover a broad range of cases across gynecological pathology.

Credit Type: CME
Duration: 1 hour
Launch Date: December 4, 2023
Expiration Date: December 3, 2026 11:59 PM (CT)
Pricing: Junior Member Fee: $10.00
MOC Category: Medical Knowledge. Patient Care

Description
This activity prepares you for success by keeping you abreast of current knowledge of the pathology of hydatidiform moles and their histologic mimics. You will also learn how to recognize hydatidiform moles and distinguish them from non-molar lesions such as early hydropic abortus, placental mesenchymal dysplasia, and ectopic pregnancy. Key aspects of accurate diagnosis of these entities are discussed, with a special focus on the usefulness of IHC and molecular genetic assays in diagnosing difficult cases.

By the end of the activity, you will be able to identify morphologic features of molar disease, distinguish them from their histologic mimics, and describe the value of ancillary testing in making an accurate diagnosis.

This activity was presented at the 2023 CAP Pathology in the Islands as part of the activity Molar Disease and Mole Mimics.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Recognize morphologic features of molar disease and their histologic mimics.
  2. Understand the utility of immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics in recognizing hydatidiform moles.
