Description
This session will discuss surprise intestinal metaplasia/dysplasia/neoplasia in the clinical setting of cholecystitis; other neoplastic polyps; porcelain gallbladders; and the pain points and pitfalls. This activity was originally presented at CAP20 as part of the activity Gastrointestinal, Liver, and Pancreaticobiliary Neoplasms: Precursors and Progeny Charting the Course.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this assessment activity, you should be able to:

  1. Diagnose intestinal metaplasia, low-, and high-grade dysplasia.
  2. Determine appropriate additional tissue sampling strategies after dysplasia has been diagnosed.
  3. Identify a calcified/fibrosed gallbladder and the significance of this disease.
  4. Develop a plan to address the specific clinical implications associated with a calcified/fibrosed gallbladder.
