Description
This Virtual Biopsy Program (VBP) activity features five cases in which you will review whole slide images of surgical specimens to diagnose diseases. You will be presented with information on each case including clinical history, specimen source information, diagnostic findings and/or other ancillary testing data, as well as a corresponding whole slide image.

After you complete each case by selecting the correct diagnosis, you will be presented with a 25-question assessment. These questions relate to the correct diagnosis for each of the five cases.

Bonus Case Included!
An additional ex vivo microscopy (EVM) technique case using confocal microscopy (CM) is included in this activity only. This case includes the clinical history and associated EVM CM images. Nongraded knowledge check questions will be provided along with annotated areas of the images that are diagnostic. Bonus case content is NOT included in the 25-question assessment, and therefore does not offer any additional CME credits.

Objectives
After completing this assessment activity, you should be able to:

  1. Examine whole slide biopsy images from a variety of sites and establish the diagnosis by integration of clinical information and morphologic findings.
  2. Select appropriate ancillary studies to confirm the diagnosis.
  3. Recognize the diagnostic challenges of various disease entities based on biopsies.
  4. Use the program as a benchmark for diagnostic performance and source of information for quality improvement.
