This activity features five challenging cases in which you will view whole slide images of nongynecological fine-needle aspirations (FNAs). You will be presented with information on each case including clinical history, specimen source information, laboratory findings and other ancillary testing data, and a corresponding whole slide image. After you diagnose each case, you will be presented with three multiple-choice questions that relate to the correct diagnosis of the case and contain additional diagnostic information.
As a result of participating in this assessment activity, you should be able to:
- Interpret an FNA case and formulate a reasonable differential diagnosis using patient history, clinical information, ancillary studies, and morphology.
- Select appropriate ancillary studies for an FNA case.
- Recognize the limitations of FNA when results of appropriate ancillary studies are noncontributory.
