Description
This self-assessment module (SAM) is based on an article that appeared in the March 2013 issue of Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine about the utility and diagnostic accuracy of ureteroscopic biopsy in upper tract urothelial carcinoma. It was developed by an expert in the field, Debra L. Zynger.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this SAM eligible activity, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the clinical use and limitation of ureteroscopic biopsy for the diagnosis of upper tract urothelial carcinoma.
  2. Identify the specificity of upper tract ureteroscopic biopsy for the histopathologic diagnosis of urothelial carcinoma.
  3. Identify the sensitivity of upper tract ureteroscopic biopsy for the histopathologic diagnosis of urothelial carcinoma.
  4. Assess the histopathologic diagnostic accuracy of endoscopic biopsy specimens from the ureter, renal pelvis, and ureteropelvic junction.
  5. Describe the grade and pT classification concordance of ureteroscopic biopsy compared to surgical resection.
