Description
Measurement of growth hormone (GH) is important for the diagnosis of GH deficiency or GH excess (gigantism in children or acromegaly in adults). Learn about these clinical indications for GH measurement, as well as the challenges with interpreting results due to lack of GH assay harmonization and standardization.

This clinical pathology activity is intended for pathologists.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the clinical indications for measurement of growth hormone (GH).
  2. Describe the history and current state of GH analysis.
  3. Explain how lack of assay harmonization and standardization impact the diagnosis of GH excess and deficiency.
