Rereleased Activity
This activity was originally released as Diagnosing Breast Lesions and was available between June 29, 2023 and June 29, 2026. The content was reviewed in May 2025.

Description
IHC studies are increasingly used to assist the diagnostic evaluation of breast lesions. This activity will emphasize potential pitfalls in interpretation and will discuss both common as well as less recognized (but often more challenging) sources of diagnostic error. You will learn correlative morphologic features to help you interpret confusing or indeterminate IHC results. You will also gain an understanding of the appropriate settings in which these IHC studies may be diagnostically helpful and an appreciation of their uses and limitations in daily practice.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Interpret commonly used immunohistochemical studies.
  2. Recognize potential interpretative pitfalls.
  3. Utilize correlative morphologic features to avoid misdiagnosis.
