Description
As the number and complexity of liquid biopsy tests grow, it becomes increasingly important for pathologists to understand the technical advantages and limitations of this technology. This activity will focus on ctDNA testing in cancer, where there has been rapid advancement in understanding how the “liquid biopsy” may be particularly useful for patients who are not ideal biopsy candidates, or for whom resistance is important to detect during a monitoring period.

This clinical pathology activity is intended for pathologists.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Understand and apply the key features of the ctDNA analyte to effectively collect and process samples for testing.
  2. Recognize the current limitations of ctDNA assays and the risks of misinterpretation.
  3. Become familiar with the landscape of molecular biomarkers relevant in non-small cell lung cancer.
  4. Critically evaluate the potential applications of ctDNA to various clinical indications.
