Description
Your leadership has approved funds to purchase a barcode-based specimen tracking module within the laboratory information system (LIS). You should be all set, right? Not necessarily! With this case, discover what needs to be considered in an implementation plan, including costs other than the software that could be incurred.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:
- Recognize that implementing new software features requires consideration of people and process.
- Identify several factors that need to be considered in preparing for the software implementation.
- Learn how a barcode tracking system can enable practices which can decrease labeling errors and promote patient safety.
- Understand how “hidden practices” can undermine the success of a histology asset tracking solution.
